Mangalitsa (Mangalica, Mangalitza) is a rare old breed of pig originally from Hungary. Prized for its lard, dark red pork and marbling throughout the meat. Packed with omega 3,6,9, vitamin D and antioxidants. Making for a very healthy type of pork. Coined as the “Kobe beef of pork”. Mangalitsa pork is great for curing and charcuterie.

Our pigs are forested and pastured. We feed a custom mix of peas, barley & oats with supplemental fresh veggies and pasture. They are not kept inside a dark barn on a cement floor their whole life instead they spend life grazing, foraging and exercising.

Mangalitsa is a slower growing pig breed which makes for an exceptional finished product. They are known to have a great temperament as well as being cold hardy with their wooly coat to protect them from the elements.

Mangalitsa are typically butchered over the age of 1 year old. Marbling and meat increases with age. The 2 year mark makes for an extraordinary carcass. Because they take longer to reach butcher size the cost to raise them is greater than a traditional meat breed. This is also reflected in their initial cost.
